Rural Anti Insect Lethal System
OVERVIEW
R.A.I.L.S. (Rural Anti Insect Lethal System) is an isometric tower defense. A meteorite landed is the woods, mutating the local insects that are now trying to attack your pantry.
But Peppino will not let those pesky purple insects win, be it the last thing he does on this damn planet.
Split in two phases, Peppino also fends off the insects with his ramato during the wave phase, but be careful, since automated defenses can only be placed on moving rails and resources are scarce. You must take advantage of this in order to defend your property.

I worked as a Team Lead and Lead Game Designer for this project. The team was 15+ people strong and it was the second-year big project. We also brought and presented this game at Svilupparty 2023

MY CONTRIBUTIONS
Team Lead - Lead Game Designer

Took a vague concept that emerged from brainstorming and started offering realistic suggestions to end up with a viable game idea.

Designed the core mechanics and systems of the game, including:

Permanently moving defense system: rail structures and different turrets.

Player agency during the waves, how Peppino moves and fights.

Level, Enemy and Waves Design:
-
A progressive level design where new paths for the insects to attack are opened during the game.

A range of different enemies: from small minions to a final boss.
-
How the enemies are supposed to attack the pantry and Peppino's property.

Balanced the game:​​​​

Character movement speed and damage.​

Turrets speed, damage, range and fire mode.
-
Enemies speed, HP, damage and movement mode.

​Animated all the insects: walk, attack and death animation.
